Is Fabletics a Scam??

Whenever you see Fabletics post on Instagram there always seems to be at least one irate comment, exclaiming how Fabletics is a money stealing scam. It seems that in their rush to claim the bargain introductory VIP special of two pairs of leggings for $24 that the people don’t read the terms and conditions of the VIP Membership program.

Wait, back up.. what is Fabletics?

Fabletics is a company that has been around since 2013. It was co founded by American actress Kate Hudson, and is part of the TechStyle Group (formerly JustFab Inc). Their main business model for every store in the group seems to be their e-commerce VIP membership subscription service. In addition to the Fabletics online store they now have 25 bricks and mortar stores scattered across America. You are able to shop the clothing and accessories without becoming a VIP but being a VIP gets you the best prices. Kate is very involved in the promotion, and dare I say, the success, of Fabletics.

So what are they complaining about?

As mentioned the Fabletics VIP membership is subscription based, on the first day of every month you log in and view the selection of outfits on offer, which you can then purchase. If nothing takes your fancy you can skip the month and you will not be charged the $49.95USD monthly fee. If you don’t skip the month in the first 5 days then you will be charged. The money will sit in your account as credits to use at a later date. I notice though that people often can’t use these credits when things go on sale which seems odd, again it is in their fine print if you read it.

The majority of the complaints about Fabletics come from people who did not realise that they were signing up for the VIP membership when they purchase one of the bargain introductory offers.  They get their cheap leggings and then forget about Fabletics only to discover some months down the track that they have been paying $49.95 a month and they become outraged. The key with Fabletics is remembering to skip!

What about the clothing?

As for the clothes, they have a good range of apparel, shoes, and accessories. Most clothing is in a very inclusive size range of XXS to 3XL. You are able to buy the pieces separately but the biggest savings come when you purchase one of their two or three piece outfits, which range from $39.95USD to $79.95USD.

Postage is free within the US when you spend over $49.95USD and they charge $9.95USD for postage to Australia, which is quite reasonable but be prepared to wait, anytime I have ordered the shipping has taken at least two weeks.

So, is it worth it?

In my opinion, the VIP membership has been worth signing up for.  The clothing is great quality for the price and everything I have purchased is lasting well. I can’t say the same thing for some of my other cheaper leggings.  Fabletics regularly have VIP sales and special deals, like 2 for $30 leggings.  You don’t have to make a purchase every month, you just have to remember to skip if you don’t want to buy anything.  Skipping is easy, check out my step by step guide on how to skip the month.

It is quite clear from the beginning that by accepting their introductory offer you are signing up for the VIP program.  If the idea of being a VIP is offputting and you are not sure you will remember to skip then you are probably better off just purchasing at the regular prices.
